Bulk Trash Pickup in Ocean City, MD: Town Options, Fees & Faster Alternatives

Ocean City's trash crews do a great job keeping a resort town clean, but a worn-out sofa or a waterlogged mattress doesn't belong in a waste wheeler. If you own a home or condo in town, here's how bulk trash pickup actually works in Ocean City, Maryland, what it costs, and the situations where it's quicker to bring in a junk removal crew. Details come from the Town of Ocean City Solid Waste Division; confirm dates with them before you set anything out.
Quick facts at a glance
- Free Spring Clean Up: one Saturday morning in late March, residents only, curbside.
- Paid bulk pickup (2026 summer rates): $40 first item, $75 up to three, $10 each additional.
- Request online with the Town; replies within about two days.
- Solid Waste Division: 204 65th Street, 410-524-0318.
- No lumber, carpet, tires, paint or dirt in Town trash containers.
- Town crews don't go inside buildings or onto private property.
Option 1: The free Spring Clean Up
Once a year the Town runs a free residential bulk pickup called Spring Clean Up, usually on a Saturday in late March. Residents place items curbside during a morning window (in recent years 7 AM to noon), and crews collect them. It covers things that won't fit in a normal refuse truck:
- Furniture, appliances, bicycles and carpet
- Yard debris and shrubs, with tree limbs no thicker than three inches
It does not include full-size trees or "large demolition/remodeling projects," staff won't go onto private property to get items, and it's for residential properties only — commercial properties, including many rental operations, are excluded. If your cleanout can wait until spring and everything can be carried to the curb, it's a great deal.
Option 2: The Town's paid bulk pickup
Outside Spring Clean Up, residents inside Town limits can request a bulk pickup online. The Town says it will reply within about two days with a scheduled date and time. For the 2026 summer season (May 1–September 30, Monday–Friday) the published cost was:
- $40 for the first item
- $75 for up to three items
- $10 for each additional item
Winter service began October 1, 2026; check the Town's page or call the Solid Waste Division at 410-524-0318 for current winter details.
What can't go in your regular trash in Ocean City
The Town lists prohibited contents for its containers, and they're worth knowing before a renovation or a move-out:
- Motor vehicle tires
- Building materials such as wood, lumber and carpet or rugs
- Hazardous, medical or radioactive waste; paint and motor oil
- Rocks, dirt and sod
- Anything burning or smoldering
Containers also have to be at the curb by 6 AM on collection day and pulled back by 6 PM. From mid-May to mid-October, residential collection runs twice a week; in the off-season it drops to once a week, and the day depends on which part of town you're in (Inlet to 74th Street versus 75th to 146th Street, and bayside versus oceanside).

When the Town's options don't fit
Bulk pickup is built for a few items at the curb on a schedule. It's a harder fit when:
- You're on the 8th floor. Many Ocean City condos mean elevators, long hallways and limited loading areas. Town crews don't come inside.
- You have a deadline. A settlement date, a new tenant or a renovation crew arriving Monday won't wait for the next open pickup slot.
- It's more than a handful of items. A full unit of furniture adds up quickly at per-item pricing.
- It's renovation debris. Old cabinets, carpet and drywall are excluded from both Spring Clean Up and regular containers.
- You're an owner who lives elsewhere. Plenty of Ocean City owners live in Pennsylvania, Virginia or the Baltimore–Washington area and can't be there to drag things to the curb.
How a junk removal visit works
INSTA Junk Removal & Demolition serves Ocean City from our base in Salisbury. Our crew comes to you, gives a free on-site estimate based on how much truck space the items take, and — once you approve — loads everything from wherever it sits, including upper floors. Labor, loading and disposal are included in the price. We don't take hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, fuel), and we don't rent dumpsters.

Tips before you set anything out
- Don't put items out early for a pickup that isn't scheduled — windblown debris and blocked sidewalks are a real problem in a beach town.
- Bag or wrap mattresses so they stay dry and don't attract pests.
- Check your HOA or condo association rules about where items can be staged and when service elevators can be used.
- Donate what's usable. Good furniture often has a second life with local charities.
