Rehoboth Beach Bulk Trash & Junk Removal: What the City Takes and What It Doesn't

Rehoboth Beach packs a lot of homes into one square mile, and between summer rentals, renovations and downsizing, there's always something big that needs to go. The City has clear rules about bulk items — and some real limits. Here's what to know before you put that old dresser on the curb. Information comes from the City of Rehoboth Beach Trash Collection page; confirm with City Hall (302-227-6181) before you schedule anything.
Quick facts at a glance
- Free Spring Bulk Pickup, late April–early May, for residents inside City limits only.
- Special bulk pickup any time: $75 minimum, call 302-227-6181 ext. 123.
- Regular trash excludes construction debris, tires, concrete, electronics and refrigerant appliances.
- Refrigerant must be professionally removed before an appliance goes in the spring pickup.
- Nearest DSWA transfer station: Rt. 5, Harbeson, Monday–Saturday 7 AM–3 PM.
- Don't set items out without a scheduled pickup.
Regular trash collection in Rehoboth Beach
The City collects residential trash twice a week from mid-April through October and once a week November through mid-April. The south side's days are Monday (and Thursday in season); the north side, including the Schoolvue area, is Tuesday (and Friday in season). Commercial businesses contract directly with private haulers.
Weekly collection is for household trash only. The City lists these items as not collected with regular trash:
- Construction materials such as wood and debris
- Tires and concrete
- Electronics
- Items that may contain refrigerant (refrigerators, AC units)
- Hazardous waste such as paint and batteries
The free Spring Bulk Pickup
Once a year the City runs a free Spring Bulk Pickup for residents inside City limits. In 2026 it ran April 27–May 1 on the south side and May 4–8 on the north side. It accepts furniture and mattresses, appliances (refrigerant must be professionally removed first), e-waste such as TVs, up to five tires without rims, general junk, and lumber or pipe pieces up to 4 inches thick and 5 feet long.
It does not accept commercial waste, dirt, rocks, bricks or concrete, lawn and tree trimmings, household garbage, heavy materials like engines, or hazardous waste. Items should go out no more than 24 hours before pickup, in front of your own property, without blocking sidewalks.
Special bulk pickup the rest of the year
Outside the spring event, residents can request a special bulk pickup for a minimum fee of $75 by calling 302-227-6181, ext. 123. The City specifically asks people not to set items out unless they've scheduled a pickup with the City or a private provider.

Where DSWA fits in
For construction debris and hazardous items, the City points residents to the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (800-404-7080). The closest DSWA transfer station to Rehoboth is the Rt. 5 Transfer Station at 29997 John P. Healy Drive, Harbeson (Monday–Saturday, 7 AM–3 PM), where loads are weighed and charged by weight. DSWA only accepts waste generated in Delaware, and it does not accept construction and demolition material from contractors or from anyone using a dump trailer or double-axle trailer. Our Sussex County transfer station guide covers this in more detail.
When hiring junk removal is the easier choice
- You can't wait for spring. A sale, a new tenant or a contractor's start date sets the schedule.
- Items are inside. City crews collect at the curb; they won't carry a sleeper sofa down from a second floor.
- It's renovation debris the City won't take, or you don't have a truck to get it to Harbeson.
- It's a whole house. A $75 minimum per pickup works for a few items, not a full rental turnover.
- You're outside City limits — in Henlopen Acres, Lewes or the communities along Route 1 — where City pickup doesn't apply.
INSTA Junk Removal & Demolition serves Rehoboth Beach and the surrounding Sussex County communities. We give a free estimate, price by truck space, and include labor, loading, hauling and disposal. We work Monday–Saturday, 8 AM–5 PM, and don't handle hazardous materials or rent dumpsters. Start on our Rehoboth Beach junk removal page.
Quick checklist for Rehoboth homeowners

- Photograph the rest and request a quote if timing or volume doesn't fit the City's options.
